Método: Estudio no experimental. Abstract: Objective: To examine engagement and burnout differences in health professionals of public and private institutions, and describe the relationship between Engagement and Burnout. Methods: Non-experimental study. A sociodemographic data sheet, the UWES 9 and the MBI-HS were applied to 388 participants. An analysis of t-student and U Mann- Withney was performed and a Pearson correlation coefficient was used. Results: They are homogeneous in engagement but public sector workers have higher scores on emotional fatigue and depersonalization, and lower scores on personal achievement. The dimensions of Engagement correlate negatively with the dimensions of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. There is a positive correlation between the dimensions of Engagement and personal fulfillment. Conclusions: The type of institution has implications for Burnout, but not for Engagement. The greater the engagement, the less burnout. It is recommended to design interventions that consider the type of institution.
