\ Abstract: The inclusion of Binge Eating Disorder (BED) as a diagnostic category within the DSM-V and its specific criteria, allowed for the difference between other disorders such as Anorexia and Bulimia. The following revised article focuses on the main characteristics of Binge Eating Disorder in adolescents; understanding that such disorder is characterized by the compulsive ingestion of food and it is the most prevalent in the obese population as mentioned in studies with adolescents. The risk factors of this disorder cover different variables such as psychologic, biologic and sociocultural, the prevention and mitigation of these variables can decrease the possibility of said disorder appearing and reduce the impact it has over emergent compulsive conducts, of behavioral disinhibition, out of control eating, physical health risks, diminishing the worries in respect to weight and figure. Finally, after revising the authors, there were limitations found that can conclude that the selected studies do not cover updated investigations in Colombia, showing the necessity to broaden the investigation, considering the influence of specific context in the particularities of the population that suffer from Binge Eating Disorder.
