| dc.description | The present article analyzes the relation between the hygienist thought and theideal of civilization at the Sociedad de Mejoras Públicas de Manizales (SMP)during the first half of the 20th century. A hygienic approach as a socio-biologicaland social-control device was used by the SMP as a mechanism to achieve thelong-wished progress. Thus, physical and moral cleanliness was taken at the timeas the axe of progress in a city that was then having serious problems in theprovision of health and public services, which went in parallel with a significanteconomic development. | en-US |
| dc.description | Se tiene por objeto analizar la relación entre el pensamiento higienista de la época y los ideales de civilización que tuvieron lugar en la Sociedad de Mejoras Públicas de Manizales, durante la primera mitad del siglo XX. El higienismo como dispositivo sociobiológico y de control social, sirvió a la entidad como mecanismo para llegar al progreso anhelado. Así, limpieza física y moral fueron asumidos omo los ejes del progreso de una ciudad que a inicios del siglo XX, a la par de su desarrollo económico, también contaba con graves problemas en materia de salubridad, servicios públicos y otros problemas propios de las ciudades en proceso de modernización. | es-ES |
