Abstrat:Currently the line of research in the field of architecture and urban planning has a bioclimatic emphasis, therefore, this article points to the importance of the use of suitable tree species to generate favorable shadows in the public space of the hot humid tropical Andean climate, taking as reference the urban area of Caimalito Risaralda, Colombia. The wooded being the fundamental protagonist in urban design, which is why it forges the so-called “urban shadow”, defined as the twilight effect that reflects an urban tree <one that, being located outdoors and being primarily of public utility, affects the environment of a city, whether integrated into it on the street, or in urban / forest interface areas> (Novelo, 2009); The selection of the indicated species according to the climatic conditions and demands of the place, is determined in consideration of the study and / or analysis of the territory and the needs of its inhabitants, in this case, the requirement of permanent shadows that allow protection from the direct incidence of the sun's rays to enjoy the public space in a warm humid tropical climate located in the Andean region of Colombia, with particular characteristics of the site, supporting the inclemency of solar radiation at an average temperature of 30 ° C. Apart from shadows, the trees can be used to help filter air, water, sunlight and noise; with the particularity of cooling the environment by reducing the urban heat island and thereby offering comfort in areas intended for recreation for its inhabitants, since the pleasant shading of streets and parks attracts socialization and play. Therefore, a strategy to improve public space in the case of Caimalito Risaralda, would be, among others, to take advantage of the free areas for the creation and integration of new habitats with those of the existing natural environment that promote the conservation and re-naturalization of the landscape through the use of native trees, urban orchards and ecological gardens, prompting that planning in concert with the community is an important factor to obtain positive results in the achievement of the purpose: the generation of appropriate urban shadows.
