Abstract: Although the therapeutic relationship has gained much ground in research within the field of psychology, studying aspects such as the results and success of psychotherapy, there is evidence of a vacuum in the study with respect to the influence this could have on the mental health of the clinical psychologist. For this reason, this article describes the influence that the therapeutic relationship has on the mental health of the clinical psychologist, through the theoretical review of variables such as mental health and therapeutic relationship, showing that, despite the scarce research, there is a marked influence that is reflected in manifestations such as burnout syndrome, compassion fatigue, secondary traumatic stress, vicarious trauma, alcohol use and abuse, family problems, depression, suicide risk, and compassion satisfaction, indirect resistance and indirect post-traumatic growth, psychological well-being, confidence, emotional regulation, acquisition of experience and strengthening of therapeutic skills, which impact the life of the professional both positively and negatively.
